Russey Keo road
project queried

NATIONAL
Assembly President Heng Samrin has written a letter urging officials in
Russey Keo district to consider scaling
back a planned road expansion in response to a request from villagers who
say they fear they will lose their homes if current plans for the project
go forward.
About 100
families stand to be affected by plans to widen a 4-kilometre section of
National Road 6 by 60 metres, said villagers who protested in front of
Prime Minister Hun Sen\'s home in Kandal province\'s Takhmao town on
Thursday.
A May 25
letter signed by Heng Samrin, a copy of which was obtained Thursday, said
local officials should consider a request from the families to widen the
road by only 27.5metres.
\"The
villagers are certainly concerned about the loss of their homes due to this
project, which is why they suggested expanding the road by only 27.5metres
total,\" he said….

Property prices
heading for a slump, say experts
|

BEIJING
- Property prices in China\'s 70 major cities were up 12.4 percent
year-on-year in May, but experts said prices would fall in the following
months as the number of transactions decreases.
The growth
is lower than the record 12.8 percent year-on-year rise in April, the
National Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday.
Property
prices in May rose 0.2 percent month-on-month, compared with a 1.4 percent
growth in April.
\"We
expect significant price declines in the next few quarters as investment
demand is curtailed and public housing supply increases,\" said Peng
Wensheng, research head of China economy at Barclays Capital.
Homelink
Beijing, a real estate brokerage firm, said recently that the price of new
apartments in Beijing would slide over the next three months, following
falling sales.

Fire families wait for
relocation, new land
|
|

|
TUOL
Kork district officials on Monday told a group of 170 families made
homeless by a March 8 fire in Boeung Kak 2 commune that they could be
relocated to an undeveloped site in Dangkor district\'s Choam Chao commune
at the end of the month.
Also Monday,
68 other families that have continued to resist relocation protested in
front of City Hall, calling on local officials to grant them land to build
new homes at the site of the fire.
At a meeting
with the first group of families, held at Neak Von pagoda, Tuol Kork deputy
governor Thim Sam An said infrastructure at the Choam Chao district
relocation site would not be fully in place before families arrive.
\"We
cannot connect the electricity and water line, including the drainage
system, by the end of this month. We will have to do these things
step-by-step after the relocation,\" he said. \"But if you agree
to go, we will relocate you this month.\"
